Managing Water in Asia’s River Basins: Charting Progress and Facilitating Investment : Technical Assistance Completion Report

sector: Water and Other Urban Infrastructure and Services | country: | region: Regional

(i) Collaboration with NARBO (Network of Asian River Basin Organization) added significant value of the TA (technical assistance) in effective dissemination of IWRM (integrated water resources management) practice in regional meetings and capacity development program for basin practitioners across the region. The NARBO advisory service were applied to other DMCs (developing member countries) to provide guidance on various aspects of river basin management. This has led to the increased interest from other countries including Bangladesh, India and Nepal on similar activities and basin investment projects.

(ii) Piloting of the RAS (roadmap advisory service) in the Baitarani river basin in India, which was shelved, incorporated the lessons learned from antecedent technical assistance which highlighted the stakeholder consultations as essential to acquire wider acknowledgement and mutual consensus among stakeholders in IWRM process.

(iii) The senior water professionals from other river basins in the region delivered tangible contributions to RAS to serve as peer advisers, share experience in IWRM implementation and roadmap preparation, and dialogue closely with basin stakeholders.

(iv) The project supported, catalyzed, and added value to parallel water initiatives. This made the TA strategically relevant, and kept it abreast on latest trends and challenges to water.
